Crimes Against Craft

Yes it's that time of the week again, already. This week it is a case of I just don't understand. I would just like to add, I will not think less of anyone who does. These are earrings made out of cardboard, and paper mache. They are very large apparently but so light. There was nothing for scale in the picture, so I like to imagine they are massive, oh how I wish they had used a model to photograph them. (Incidentally, I think these would be fabulous for dress-ups, and might get around to making them with my girl monkeys one day.)

Now this is a mystery to me. I mean I don't really like wreaths, and wouldn't like to decorate my house with them, but I wouldn't normally consider them a crime either. But this? A fake wreath? Made of fimo?

Don't these loaves look yummy? Well you can't eat them. They are for decoration. I don't get it. I just don't get it.

I did make some salt dough christmas tree decorations one year, a monkey bonding activity. It turns out that rats rather like the taste.

I had forgotten all about the salt-dough ornaments...you've just dredged a memory back from my childhood. We made them for the Christmas tree too, one year. I don't think any rats got them, but they didn't look that attractive either.

And as for Fimo wreath...hmmm.

Dust collectors, every last one of them.

Beats me. MDH's best friend's wife is a craft maker.

Has "country" crafts all over her walls, dolls made out of hay on the lounge, on the floor, every available spot.

They have an old ironing board (rusted and wooden) that holds a number of other home made things. An old crappy wooden ladder hangs from her kitchen ceiling and holds all these old pots and bottle openers and (dare I say, junk) that she never uses on a day to day basis.

MDH cringes, I threaten him I will ask for lessons if he doesn't treat me better.

Oh *(&%#, I just dropped my cardboard earring into my cup of tea!

I have a book on 'Salt Dough' craft - which is like making things out of fimo, but it's scone dough, so cheaper ;)

I think I made a sundial to hang on an outside wall. I think it looked shit. Perhaps went mouldy, or turned into a puddle on the first rain. Who knows. My first and last foray into Country Craft.

I should see if there's anything really grotesque in it and fwd on to you ;)

Foody things you can't eat. Now THAT sucks! I think all the middle school girls were wearing those earrings in the eighties.

We made a set of salt-dough christmas ornaments when we were little and my Mother still puts them on the tree every year, even though they look like crap.

LOL Aunty Evil! Bet your tea looks psychedelic now!

Ye gods! Those earrings are just hideous. And yes, I fail to 'get' wreathes too.
I have a friend who decorates her house in the 'country style'. It looks like a page out of a magazine.
I laughed at the crappy ladder with old rusty things- not my idea of heaven either. Never did the salt dough thing, but once crocheted Xmas tree ornaments.. wonder what happened to them??
